Youth Power’s One Streets Festival Electrifies Morphou

onestreetsWith the slogan “CTR+ALT+DELETE” referring to the walls that exist between the people of diverse ethnicities inhabiting Cyprus, “Youth Leaders and Cultural Activists”, an informal group of young Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots, take over Morphou Bus Terminal Avenue with One Streets Festival, this Saturday 26 November 2011, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The programme includes music by Dj Starlight, the Hasan- Ahmet – Besim Music Group, the JAZZIEZ Music Group, Duygu Üstündağ, and Kesaras Anastasi with Mihalis Hatzipanteli. The talent of Synergy Dance Team, Hürmüs – Hasan Cha - Cha - Cha Dance Show and Hasan Mambo Dance Show provide the dance entertainment. The International Fashion Show of traditional costumes features as the highlight of the event along with BorderStories, a photo exhibition about borders and the way they influence society. Deniz Urfali, member of the organising group, Youth Leaders and Cultural Activists, says: “One Streets Festival aims to help young people reclaim the streets of Cyprus in the name of tolerance and diversity. These things unite us as young Cypriots and they deserve to be celebrated.” One Streets Festival is part of the “Youth Activism Project” implemented by “Youth Power: Shaping Our Future” and supported by UNDP’s initiative in Cyprus Action for cooperation and Trust. “Youth Power consists of 12 Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot organisations working together to support youth development and activism throughout Cyprus. More information: www.multiculturalcyprus.org and full flyer here.
