CCMC held an innovative guerilla mediamaking workshop on 27 May 2010 at the CCMC premises. Guerilla mediamaking is a concept involving the production of media on a tight budget, which does not target the mainstream media, but seeks alternative ways of dissemination and reaching an audience. The workshop was successful in bringing out different aspects of civil society activism and an opportunity for like-minded people from different parts of the island to become more engaged with each others’ work and the work of CCMC.

The workshop, conducted by CCMC staff member Alana Kakoyiannis and media consultant Vasia Markides, was attended by 31 people in total, representing 14 different projects and organizations. Independent participants also took part, travelling from Paphos, Limassol and Famagusta. The workshop was followed by the screening of the film ‘Ten Tactics for Information Activism’ and a panel discussion on activism in the Cyprus-context. “We would love to have more brainstorm sessions on guerilla action in Cyprus,” remarked one of the participants.
